João Casimiro Almeida
João Casimiro Almeida is one of the most renowned Portuguese pianists of his generation, with a vast and recognized musical experience. He has an extensive and versatile repertoire, frequently playing solo, chamber music and with orchestra. João regularly performs in the most prestigious concert halls in the country, and also maintaining an international agenda in countries such as Spain, France, Austria, Poland, Norway and South Korea. He has been awarded first prize in international competitions such as Cidade do Fundão Internacional Competition, Prémios David Russell, and the Paços Premium International
Competition.
João is the pianist of the Ars ad Hoc Ensemble since its foundation in 2018, a chamber music group dedicated to contemporary music. The ensemble makes important national premieres of outstanding works of our time, working closely with the composers, as well as performing prominent works of the 19th and 20th century. He also regularly collaborates with other contemporary ensembles such as Remix Ensemble, Sond’ar-te Electric Ensemble, Ensemble Darcos and Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain.
